To bend. Usually the first exercise at the Barre. A good Plié is invaluable for a good jump and a good landing. There are two types of Plié: Demi {half} with heels on the floor and Grand {full}. All jumps start and finish with a demi-plié.A good Plié has an elastic quality. In Grand Plié the heels stay securely on the ground in second position. In first, third, fourth and fifth, the heels are raised when doing Grand Plié. Plié is the basis for all ballet movement, so get your body centered and placed right.
