Pronunciation
A position in which the pointed foot is in line with and touching right below the knee, either in front or in back or to the side of the supporting knee. Americans usually call this position Passé. Also, Retiré can mean when you jump or rélevé from fifth and the working foot is raised to retiré position and landing back in fifth. This step is shown beautifully in the second act of "Swan Lake" by the ballerina during the coda of the White Swan Pas De Deux. Retiré front, side and back.
