Turn out

Turn out is the basis of all ballet steps. If you stand straight and put your heels together, toes turned out, that's turn out. But it's how you do it that's important. Turn out should come from the hips, not the knees, and no rolling over on your arches, no flat feet. Some dancers have more turn out than others. It does not have to be perfect for you to be a good dancer. Work with what you have. Nobody is perfect. From sixth position, turn out to first position.
